Scaffolding in Plungington

Plungington is one of Preston's densest terraced neighbourhoods, running north from the university quarter around UCLan, and it is only minutes from our base. The tight Victorian grid, with its narrow streets, kerbside parking and rear alleys, is exactly the kind of territory where local knowledge makes a scaffold job run smoothly instead of stalling.

Plungington's Victorian terraces keep us busy with chimney scaffolds, re-roofs, gutter and fascia renewal, repointing and gable end work. A good share of the housing here is let, including student HMOs serving the university a few streets away, so we do a lot of work for landlords and letting agents who need clear paperwork, quick erection between tenancies and firm strike dates. We are used to quoting remotely from a survey and sending photos as the job progresses.

Access is the local puzzle. The streets are narrow, parking is kerbside and frontages meet the footpath directly, so most scaffolds here need a Lancashire County Council highway licence at £42 per 7 days with at least two working days notice, which we arrange, along with a lit and padded pedestrian route below the scaffold. Deliveries are timed for quieter periods and the rear alleys often carry the materials in.

Being minutes away means surveys usually happen within 24 hours and a typical terrace elevation is erected within a morning. We carry insurance well above the council's £5 million public liability minimum and will send the certificate with any quote. We also cover the neighbouring streets of Moor Park, the city centre and Ashton-on-Ribble.

Scaffolding in Plungington — your questions answered

How much does scaffolding cost in Plungington?

Prices start from around £450 for a single elevation, with most Plungington jobs between £600 and £900 for one side of a terrace and £850 to £1,200 for a full two storey scaffold. Chimney scaffolds start from around £400. The usual local extra is the pavement licence at £42 per 7 days, since most frontages here meet the footpath, and we always itemise it. Prices follow a free survey, state whether VAT is included, and cover transport, erection, the hire period and dismantling.

What insurance does a scaffolding firm in Plungington need, and what do you carry?

Public liability insurance is essential. £5 million is the minimum Lancashire County Council accepts for a highway licence, which matters on Plungington's pavement fronted terraces, and £10 million is the level NASC members must carry and commercial clients routinely demand. Employers liability insurance is a legal requirement for any firm with staff. We will happily send our certificate with your quote, and landlords and agents should ask any scaffolder for theirs before hiring.

How quickly can you get scaffolding up in Plungington?

We are minutes away, so surveys usually happen within 24 hours, which suits landlords working around tenancies. Most scaffolds here go up in 2 to 8 hours, with a single terrace elevation typically done in a morning. The main schedule driver is the highway licence, since Lancashire County Council needs at least two working days notice where the scaffold stands on the pavement, and we build that lead time into the plan from the start.

Do I need to tell my neighbours before scaffolding goes up?

Not legally, provided the scaffold stands entirely on your own property, but on Plungington's tight terraces a courtesy word goes a long way, particularly where materials come through shared rear alleys. Permission is legally required only if the scaffold must stand on or oversail a neighbour's land, and the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 concerns the underlying building work rather than the scaffold itself. For HMO landlords we can notify tenants with clear dates as part of the job.
