Scaffolding in Riley Green

Riley Green is a small stone built hamlet where the A675 meets the road up from Hoghton, best known for its canalside setting where the Leeds and Liverpool Canal curls past the old boatyard. We are around twenty to twenty five minutes from our Preston base and erect TG20:21 compliant scaffolds here for cottage roof renewals, chimney repairs and extension work.

The stone cottages and former farm buildings around Riley Green typically need scaffolds for slate roof repairs, chimney stacks and repointing, and solid stone walls mean we plan tie positions carefully or build freestanding where the fabric will not take fixings. Guide pricing follows our standard bands, single elevations from around £450 and typically £600 to £900, chimney scaffolds from around £400, always confirmed by a free survey with VAT stated on the quote.

A handful of properties front directly onto the A675, and a scaffold on that footway needs a Lancashire County Council licence, £42 per 7 days with at least two working days notice, plus a safe lit walkway for pedestrians, all of which we sort. Off the main road the lanes are quiet but narrow, so we agree delivery timings in advance. We cover neighbouring Hoghton and Brindle on the same trips.

Scaffolding in Riley Green — your questions answered

How much does scaffolding cost in Riley Green?

As a guide, prices in Riley Green start from around £450 for a single elevation, typically £600 to £900, with full two storey scaffolds usually £850 to £1,200 and chimney scaffolds from around £400. Stone cottages that will not take drilled ties sometimes need a freestanding design, which can nudge the price up, and the free survey settles that before we quote. Quotes state whether VAT is included and cover transport, erection, the hire period and dismantling.

Do I need a licence for scaffolding on the pavement or road in Riley Green?

Only if the scaffold stands on or oversails the public highway, including the footpath. Under Section 169 of the Highways Act 1980 a licence from Lancashire County Council is needed before the scaffold goes up, and the handful of Riley Green cottages fronting the A675 fall squarely into that category, so we arrange the licence and a protected pedestrian route as part of the job. Scaffolds wholly on your own land need no licence.

Do you actually cover Riley Green? You are based in Preston.

Yes, Riley Green is inside our daily working area, roughly twenty to twenty five minutes from our Preston base along the A675. That means quick surveys, prompt inspections after storms and a fast strike once your trades finish. We know the hamlet's tight junction and the canalside lanes, and we cover neighbouring Hoghton and Brindle on the same runs, so jobs can often be grouped for an earlier start date.
