Scaffolding in Thornley

Thornley is the quiet farming country between Longridge and Chipping, a scatter of farmhouses, barns and cottages under the western end of Longridge Fell. Most of our work here is agricultural or on converted barns, and it is an easy run of about 25 minutes from our Preston yard. Every scaffold is TG20:21 compliant and every quote is free and fixed.

Thornley is farming country strung between Longridge and Chipping under the western end of Longridge Fell, a landscape of working farms, barn conversions and scattered stone cottages rather than streets. Scaffolding here means farmhouse reroofs, chimney stacks, barn and outbuilding repairs and access platforms for rendering or repointing, usually erected in yards where we time deliveries around milking, machinery and livestock. Long runs of single storey outbuilding often suit a lighter access scaffold, and we advise honestly on what the job actually needs.

The run out from Preston takes about 25 minutes through Longridge. Because nearly every scaffold stands on private land there is rarely any need for a highway licence, which keeps things simple and quick, and most farm jobs are surveyed within a day or two of the call. We cover Chipping, Little Town and the rest of the Thornley-with-Wheatley parish on the same trips, so mid job alterations and extra lifts are easy to arrange.

Scaffolding in Thornley — your questions answered

How much does scaffolding cost in Thornley?

As a guide, prices start from around £450 for a single elevation, with most Thornley jobs between £600 and £900 for one side and £850 to £1,200 for a full two storey farmhouse scaffold. Chimney scaffolds start from around £400 and full wraps from around £1,500. Because scaffolds here almost always stand in private yards, there are usually no licence fees to add, though longer barn runs are priced by the job. Every quote follows a free survey, states whether VAT is included, and covers transport, erection, the hire period and dismantling.

How quickly can you get scaffolding up in Thornley?

We are about 25 minutes away through Longridge, so surveys usually happen within a day or two of your call. Most domestic and farmhouse scaffolds go up in 2 to 8 hours on site, indicatively, with bigger barn jobs taking longer. The useful local point is that Thornley scaffolds almost never touch the public highway, so there is no licence lead time, and erection can often follow quote approval within a few working days, subject to weather and access around the farm.

Do I need full scaffolding or just a scaffold tower?

It depends on the job, not on any fixed height rule. There is no legal minimum height for scaffolding, the Work at Height Regulations 2005 apply wherever a fall could cause injury and the decision rests on risk assessment. Around Thornley a tower can suit a quick gutter or light repair task on a barn with firm, level ground, but reroofing, chimney work and anything needing materials stacked at height is normally a job for a properly designed scaffold. Describe the job and we will tell you straight which one it needs.
