Scaffolding in Walker Fold

Walker Fold is a handful of farms and stone houses tucked into the lanes below the Bowland fells, one of the smallest places we serve and one of the most exposed. Scaffolds here are planned for the weather as much as for the work. We are about 35 minutes away in Preston, quotes are free and every scaffold is erected to TG20:21.

Walker Fold is one of the smallest places on our list, a cluster of farms and stone houses in the lanes below the Bowland fells, and one of the most weather beaten. Scaffolds here are designed for exposure, tied and braced for the wind that comes off the fells, sheeted only where the design allows, and inspected after storms as well as on the standard 7 day cycle required by the Work at Height Regulations 2005.

It takes us about 35 minutes from Preston, the last stretch on narrow lanes where we confirm wagon access and passing places in advance. The work is mostly farmhouse roofs, chimney stacks and barn repairs, nearly always on private land, so highway licences rarely come into it. We cover Chaigley, Bashall Eaves and the Chipping side of the fell on the same runs, so even out here surveys and mid job alterations are straightforward to fit in.

Scaffolding in Walker Fold — your questions answered

How much does scaffolding cost in Walker Fold?

Prices start from around £450 for a single elevation, with most jobs around Walker Fold between £600 and £900 for one side and £850 to £1,200 for a full two storey farmhouse scaffold. Chimney scaffolds start from around £400 and full wraps from around £1,500. Exposed fell edge sites can need extra ties and bracing, which we allow for in the design rather than as a surprise on the bill. Every price follows a free survey, states whether VAT is included, and covers transport, erection, the hire period and dismantling.

How often is the scaffold checked once it is up, and what paperwork do I get?

A competent person inspects the scaffold before first use, then at intervals not exceeding 7 days, and after any alteration, damage or event likely to affect stability, as the Work at Height Regulations 2005 require. On an exposed spot like Walker Fold, under the Bowland fells, that after storm check genuinely matters and we build it into how we manage the job. Inspection reports stay on site during the work and are retained for three months afterwards, and at handover you get a certificate recording the specification and permitted use, plus a TG20 compliance sheet where applicable.

Do you actually cover Walker Fold? You are based in Preston.

Yes, though we will be honest that it is one of the further corners of our patch, about 35 minutes out. It is still a routine run rather than a special trip, because we serve Chaigley, Bashall Eaves and Chipping on the same roads. We plan wagon access for the narrow lanes before the erection date, survey free of charge, and come back promptly for inspections, adaptations and the final strike.
