Scaffolding in Oakenclough

Oakenclough sits high on the edge of the Bowland fells above Calder Vale, a small scatter of stone houses, farms and former mill buildings where the weather arrives first and leaves last. Scaffolding up here is about doing the basics properly, good ties, sensible sheeting and prompt inspections, all delivered from our Preston base about 30 minutes away.

The properties around Oakenclough are stone built and exposed, farmhouses, cottages and converted buildings that take serious weather off the fells. Our work here is chimney stacks, slate reroofs, gable repointing and access scaffolds for barn and outbuilding repairs. Exposure shapes every design decision. We brace and tie for wind, sheet only where the job truly needs it because sheeting adds load in gusts, and we inspect after storms as well as at the standard intervals not exceeding seven days, so the scaffold stays as safe in week five as it was on day one.

Almost everything up here stands on private land, so highway licences are rarely needed, and the survey focuses on ground, gradients and wagon access. We are about 30 minutes away via Garstang and cover Calder Vale below, Bleasdale across the fell lanes and Scorton on the same runs. Wyre Council is the planning authority for any consents the underlying building work needs.

Scaffolding in Oakenclough — your questions answered

How much does scaffolding cost in Oakenclough?

Prices start from around £450 for a single elevation, with most two storey jobs between £600 and £900 for one side and £850 to £1,200 for a full scaffold. Chimney scaffolds start from around £400. Exposed fell edge sites sometimes need extra bracing or ties, which we price honestly at the free survey rather than padding every quote for it. Quotes state whether VAT is included and cover transport, erection, the hire period and dismantling, with extension weeks listed up front.

How often is the scaffold checked once it is up, and what paperwork do I get?

Under the Work at Height Regulations 2005 a competent person inspects the scaffold before first use, then at intervals not exceeding 7 days, and after anything likely to affect stability, which on an exposed spot like Oakenclough definitely includes storms rolling off the fells. Reports stay on site during the work and are kept for three months after. At handover you get a certificate recording the specification, load class and permitted use, plus a TG20:21 compliance sheet or bespoke design where applicable, and the Scafftag stays visible on the scaffold itself.

Do you actually cover Oakenclough? You are based in Preston.

Yes. Oakenclough is about 30 minutes from our base via Garstang and we are on this side of the fells most weeks, covering Calder Vale, Barnacre and Scorton on the same runs. Being genuinely local matters up here, it means storm inspections happen promptly rather than eventually, adaptations do not wait a fortnight, and the scaffold comes down as soon as your trades are finished instead of standing through another month of fell weather.

Quotes. All quotes are free and carry no obligation. Quoted prices state whether VAT is included and cover transport, erection, the agreed hire period and dismantling unless the quote says otherwise. If your project runs past the included hire period, the weekly extension rate shown on your quote applies.

The scaffold. Our scaffolding is erected and dismantled by qualified scaffolders and must not be altered, moved or added to by anyone other than us. Please don't attach banners, sheeting or equipment to the scaffold without asking us first. The scaffold remains our property at all times.

Access and licences. You agree to provide reasonable access to the property for erection, inspections and dismantling. Where the scaffold stands on the public highway we arrange the council licence, and the licence fee is included in or itemised on your quote.

Insurance and safety. We hold public liability insurance and employer's liability insurance, and our scaffolds are erected to TG20:21 guidance with statutory inspections at least every 7 days while the scaffold is in use. Insurance certificates are available on request.

Your enquiry and your details. When you send an enquiry we use your name and contact details only to respond to you about scaffolding work. We don't sell or share your details with anyone else, and we don't send marketing. Ask us at any time and we'll delete your details.
