Scaffolding in Scorton

Scorton sits prettily below Nicky Nook on the edge of the Bowland fells, a stone village that fills with walkers and cyclists every weekend. Its cottages, slate roofs and weathered chimney stacks are exactly the kind of work we enjoy, about 25 minutes from our Preston base, scaffolded to TG20:21 with free surveys and honest quotes.

Scorton's stock is dominated by stone cottages and terraced rows in the village centre, with farms scattered up the lanes towards the fells. The scaffolding work follows suit. Chimney stacks that take the full force of weather coming off Nicky Nook, slate reroofs, repointing in lime on solid stone walls, and gutter renewals where cast iron is being repaired or replaced. Stone walls need thoughtful tie positions, and exposed gables get sheeting and bracing decisions made properly at the survey rather than improvised on the day.

Access needs a little care in the village. The lanes are narrow, parking is limited and weekends bring a steady stream of visitors to the cafes, so we schedule deliveries for quieter times and keep the wagon out of the way. Where a cottage fronts the footway a Lancashire County Council licence applies at £42 per 7 days with two working days notice, and we handle the paperwork, padding, lighting and signage so the pavement stays safe for passers by.

We reach Scorton in about 25 minutes via the A6 through Garstang, and we cover Cabus, Barnacre, Calder Vale and Garstang itself on the same runs. Wyre Council is the planning authority for any consents the underlying work needs, and surveys within 24 hours are usually achievable whatever the season.

Scaffolding in Scorton — your questions answered

How much does scaffolding cost in Scorton?

Prices start from around £450 for a single elevation, with most Scorton jobs between £600 and £900 for one side and £850 to £1,200 for a full two storey scaffold. Chimney scaffolds start from around £400 and gable ends from around £350. Stone cottages can sit slightly higher in the range than modern brick because ties and boarding take longer to set out well, and licensed footway scaffolds add the council's £42 per 7 days fee. We survey free, state whether VAT is included, and the price covers transport, erection, the hire period and dismantling.

How much does a chimney scaffold cost in Scorton?

Chimney scaffolds on Scorton's two storey stone cottages typically start from around £400, boarded at gutter level or saddled over the ridge, with larger stacks needing all round platforms running £700 to £1,200. The village's exposed position below the fells means stacks here weather harder than most, so repointing and rebuild jobs are common. Most chimney hires last only 1 to 2 weeks and we state the weekly extension rate up front in case the repair uncovers more.

Will people still be able to use the pavement outside my house in Scorton?

Usually yes. A licensed footway scaffold must keep a safe, lit route for pedestrians with padding, lighting and signage, which matters in a village that draws so many weekend walkers. If people would be forced into the road, Lancashire County Council requires a Chapter 8 compliant traffic management plan before granting the licence, and we prepare and submit that as part of the application. On Scorton's narrow lanes we also time deliveries to avoid the busiest visitor periods.

Do you actually cover Scorton? You are based in Preston.

Yes, Scorton is comfortably inside our daily working area, about 25 minutes away via the A6 and Garstang. We are in this corner of rural Wyre most weeks covering Barnacre, Calder Vale and Cabus too, so surveys are quick, storm inspections happen promptly and the scaffold comes down as soon as your trades finish. Being local also means we understand how the weather off Nicky Nook treats a sheeted scaffold, and we design for it.
