Scaffolding in St Michael's on Wyre

St Michael's on Wyre gathers around the old church and the bridge where the A586 crosses the River Wyre, one of the historic villages of the Fylde. Its cottages, farmhouses and riverside homes are about 25 minutes from our Preston base, and we scaffold them all to TG20:21 with free surveys and quotes that spell out exactly what is included.

The village stock is mostly older brick and rendered cottages along the A586 and the lanes off it, with farms spreading out across the surrounding mossland. Typical jobs for us are chimney scaffolds on original stacks, reroofs, repointing and render repairs, plus access scaffolds for farm buildings and the occasional extension scaffold where a family is adding space rather than moving. Properties near the river sit in a landscape that stays damp through winter, so gable and chimney repointing work comes up regularly.

Where a cottage fronts straight onto the A586 footway the scaffold needs a Lancashire County Council highway licence before erection, £42 per 7 days with at least two working days notice and £5 million public liability cover, and because the A586 carries steady traffic we design licensed scaffolds with proper padding, lighting and signage. We handle the whole application. Scaffolds on gardens, drives and farmyards need no licence at all.

We are about 25 minutes away via the A6 and A586, covering Churchtown just up the road, Great Eccleston across the river and Out Rawcliffe and Inskip on the same visits. Wyre Council is the planning authority for consents on any underlying building work, and we are happy to line the scaffold dates up with your builder once approvals land.

Scaffolding in St Michael's on Wyre — your questions answered

How much does scaffolding cost in St Michael's on Wyre?

Prices start from around £450 for a single elevation on a typical semi, with most jobs in St Michael's on Wyre between £600 and £900 for one side and £850 to £1,200 for a full two storey scaffold. Chimney scaffolds start from around £400 and full wraps from around £1,500. Cottages on the A586 frontage sometimes carry a licence fee for a footway scaffold, which we state clearly. Every job is priced after a free survey, quotes confirm whether VAT is included, and the price covers transport, erection, the hire period and dismantling.

Do I need planning permission for scaffolding in St Michael's on Wyre?

No. Scaffolding is temporary and needs no planning permission, whatever the age or setting of the property. Consents relate only to the building work the scaffold serves, and for that Wyre Council is the planning authority for the village. Separately, a highway licence from Lancashire County Council is required if the scaffold stands on or oversails public land such as the A586 footway, and we obtain that for you before erection.

How much does a chimney scaffold cost in St Michael's on Wyre?

Chimney scaffolds on the village's two storey cottages typically start from around £400, boarded at gutter level or saddled over the ridge to suit the repair, with bigger stacks needing all round platforms at £700 to £1,200. Bungalow stacks start from around £250. Older stacks here have usually seen decades of wet Fylde winters, so repointing and partial rebuilds are frequent. The hire usually only runs 1 to 2 weeks and the extension rate is on the quote in case the job grows.

Do you actually cover St Michael's on Wyre? You are based in Preston.

Yes, comfortably. We are about 25 minutes away and this stretch of the A586 is part of our regular weekly rounds, taking in Churchtown, Great Eccleston and Inskip too. That closeness means surveys within 24 hours, quick adaptations if your roofer finds more than expected, prompt inspections after storms and a fast strike when the work finishes, rather than a scaffold sitting into its second unnecessary month.
